AF Day 314

FOB Smart at 1815 - Friday

Friday night in Qalat is similar to Friday night, I presume, for those poor souls incarcerated throughout the world, or similar to what a 4-year old might experience - in that he has nothing to plan for except that which his parents plans for him and even that excludes leaving the house or yard; finally, it could be akin to being 16, having access to transportation and fun events available to go to, but being grounded and again not able to leave the house or yard. Seriously though, there is no complaint, but the same old-same old routines, while they do provide stability and security, often equate to a little downtime boredom. I suppose this is exactly why we engineering team members love going outside-the-wire and observing construction progress.

We certainly enjoyed our mission this morning, one because it lasted over three hours (unusual) due to an extended time requirement to complete a pre-punch list walkthrough at a nearby project nearing closeout and completion, and also because we had similar requirements for time at the other "regular" projects we observe. Our soldiers and armed security guards performed impeccably and our effects element (those of us who are unarmed) were appreciative of the time away from the forward operating base.

Kaesen and I spoke at great length this morning on the phone and Skype. Talk about maintaining sanity - this is what does it for me - hands down. He is an amazing little boy - and what makes him even more perfect for me is that he is my son! We are both so excited - especially due to the fact that I have now just over 29 days remaining until I begin my several-day journey home! Talk about, "Wow!"

143, Kaesen.

Good night and good day.
