FOB Smart at 1830 - Thursday
What an incredibly long day. It began with waking up nearly two hours early - automatically without the usual aid of an alarm. We had two missions scheduled and prepared today - and two missions scrubbed at the last minute. Change is inevitable - as with the changes today. Replacing those missions were meetings, local observations of work progress, and another former team departure gather at the helipad to see them off.
Two additional members of the last rotation remain. All considered good friends and comrades; their departure soon will bring finality to their rotation here at FOB Smart and PRT Zabul. Their departure also ushers in the remaining weeks and days of my own deployment. The excitement is building by the second!
The weather was warm again today - well, warmer anyway and no rain today, although the skies did look ominous this early morning. All in all, the weather is good to go. We resume concrete construction throughout our province in five days. The contractors are gearing up for such and we are all excited to resume of construction observation mission schedule to full-tilt pace.
I am on my 313th day of the overall deployment, including training, travel, and R&R time. This is a number I imagined a long time ago - and now it is nearly over. Amazing. Outmazing!
143, Kaesen.
Good night and good day.
