AF Day 309

FOB Smart at 1800 - Sunday

Well, another week comes and goes, mainly without notice, certainly safely and free from any significant "excitement" to "beat around the bush" describing herein. Our final two outgoing PRT members depart sometime tomorrow. The few of us civilians here to bridge gaps and provide continuity across multiple teams will help them with their bags and wait for the helicopter to come and whisk them home to freedom. It will usher in finality to nine-plus months of cooperation and signal, finally, the new regime is in, is in charge, and is in position for recognizable respect and honorable work within the history of PRT Zabul.

The new team, as I have previously mentioned, contains members from the Alaskan Army National Guard. They are an admirable and outstanding group of dedicated soldiers. I guess, if I had to boil it down for concision, I would definitely include the fact that I have been thoroughly impressed with the last two Massachusetts' ANG teams and again this new Alaskan team. I love that we, as Americans, bring in our all-volunteer military from all walks and locations of American, even outside of American, life. Our Army civil affairs and Air Force management personnel are also equally impressive in their approach and dedication to this mission.

Folks, I have less than 32 days until I fly out of FOB Smart for the last time and less than 35 days until I fly from Kandahar Airfield to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I am so completely stoked. Mainly for the reunion with Kaesen, my adorable and loving son, as well as my family - whom I appreciate beyond words, and my incomparable friends nestled throughout the United States.

143, Kaesen.

Good night and good day.
