AF Day 298

FOB Smart at 1830 - Wednesday

Hump Day; that and all of it with a grain of salt, a few goodbyes, and a new regime overtaking, recharging life into the FOB, and now the air of cooperation is beginning to take shape. We had more of our current team depart earlier today - the new team is fully in-place and taking the reins. Transition, change, relief-in-place (RIP), and continuity are common themes around here right now. This happens about every nine months and seeing it for a third team is just as exciting for me as it was on Day One for me last 17 May 2011.

Teammates, John Morgan and Israel Garcia, are gone. My contact with them from here out will be via email or Facebook. I wish them, and all the departed, safe journeys and happy trails. New teammates include Essie, Mark, and Travis - they represent the Air Force portion of the PRT Engineering team in place between 03/2012 through 12/2012. Soon Jonathan Ball will depart, he is our fearless and strong PRT senior engineer, and he will close out the PRT Engineering team I have known for the last nine months, save for Chicky Ciccarelli, who will be here through October 2012.

I have roughly 45+ days until I depart Kandahar for Dubai, then on to Winchester, Seattle, Phoenix, and myriad places between Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and back to Seattle - possibly even Devils Lake. I have a lot of traveling ahead of me and I am excited for this for once. Even the driving is appealing to me for now. In about 42 days I will fly out of FOB Smart for the last time and will remain on Kandahar Airfield for a few days to out-process and transition home. It feels good to see the finish line so close ahead.

143, Kaesen.

Good night and good day.
