AF Day 304

FOB Smart at 2000 - Tuesday

The day began like any other, except at breakfast there were nearly no familiar faces. The faces before me were friendly no doubt and I am certain many of their names I will come to know in the remaining 37 days that I have here at FOB Smart. Even so, the scene was different, understandably, and it was largely due to the other faces I have come to know so well are no longer there. This is part of life - only accelerated here, every nine months in fact. It's all good.

I completed a dismounted foot patrol with certain of our armed security guards and U.S. Army security force members this early afternoon. I observed progress on four active projects and reviewed future project areas during this mission. The PRT will resume concrete construction in Zabul Province on 20 March, which will add infinitely more complexity to our already incredibly high-paced, high-adrenalized, and rewarding PRT lives. Never mind kinetic - we are construction-oriented and construction is about to kick the heck off again here.

The weather is still trending back to warm - although in my age or weight loss I have noticed myself appreciably cooler than in winter and springs past. Let's call it weight loss - because nearly 40 is nothing, at least to me anyway. The skies are magically blue again with intermittent rainclouds and dust storms. Summer is fast approaching and I am grateful to be leaving when I am - just in time for the big Arizona heat wave and the awesome Seattle green wave!

Life is an amazing experience.

143, Kaesen.

Good night and good day.
