AF Day 303

FOB Smart at 0600 - Monday

The week is brand new and our final handful of PRT personnel from the last rotation is soon gone. We will miss their vibrant energy, their dedication, their tenacity, and above all else - their unique personalities. We replace them with just as capable, confident, compassionate, and enthusiastic members and this, in my humble experienced opinion, is what makes PRT Zabul so very successful. I am proud to say I have known the three PRT rotations I have worked closely with in my time here at FOB Smart.

I received an email from a friend - a member's wife who has followed my blog since her husband and father of their five children deployed here last year. I would like to share my warmest regards for Heather and Matt Kangas - and thank them both, and their children, for their sacrifice, their loyalty, and welcome them home to be together again. Here is Heather's message and a homecoming photograph of the Kangas Family:

I feel like I've gotten to know you a little with you blog, so I figured I'd share a little of our family with you :) Thanks for keeping me updated on PRT Zabul for the duration of Matt's stay. You will be in my prayers until you are home safely with Kaesen!

In the end, I will walk, fly actually, away from this experience with confidence that everything we do as the PRT is worthwhile, remains essential, and continues to make a difference. I know the good work I have managed certainly fits this description and I encourage and challenge those who follow me to live their PRT lives as honorably and with as much dedication as possible. For now, these last 41 days in theater - 37 here at FOB Smart, must continue to count for all that is right and good.

143, Kaesen.

Good night and good day.
