AF Day 300

FOB Smart at 1830 - Friday

It is Friday evening and all is well here in Qalat. The mission outside the wire that I completed this morning was enjoyable. We walked along parts of the Tarnak River I had not been to before - even though the starting point is less than 100 yards from the FOB perimeter. We looked at four of our nearby projects and spent quite a good deal of time with our contractors on them - this is what I really enjoy when I am out there. We could literally spend all day at each construction project and still never tire of it and still need more time on these individual projects.

Our new team is good to go with their new mission. The PRT Engineers team met for our first official staff meeting this afternoon. The three new military members of this five-person team, myself and Ed Ciccarelli included, seem genuinely excited to be here and it shows. Our new boss exhibits very admirable qualities, including a keen engineering mind and a no-punches approach to managing her team of construction professionals. It will be refreshing yet again to work for her and this new team - our new team. Other PRT members, including our commander, all seem dialed into their roles and responsibilities. They will, I have no doubt, accomplish many great things in their short time here too.

The weather was a little cool today, but the sunshine made up for it and the air seemed fresh and even with a good breeze the normal dust was not so bad making for positive springtime attitudes to flourish. It seems that we will likely not have the spring rains that came this time last year. I for one am fine with this, as it can become atrociously muddy here on the FOB. Anyway, spring is here, folks.

143, Kaesen.

Good night and good day.
