AF Day 214

Kandahar Airfield at 1945 - Wednesday

It is finally Wednesday night here at Kandahar Airfield in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Words can barely describe my level of excitement and anticipation as I look forward to beginning my homeward journey tomorrow early afternoon. Kaesen, I am told and I know in my heart, is also as much as, if not more than, filled with joy at such a prospect. I long for his hugs, his kisses, his sweet and gentle embrace, and I know how much fun the two of us will have in Arizona and New Mexico. I know I write this all the time, but he means the world and more to me. Having your own child gratifies and satiates like nothing else and is my most fulfilling accomplishment in life.

I bought two coffees at Green Beans, a local war-chain coffee shop. I also sent another video of me reading another book for my son. Later I walked back to the Boardwalk for a little shopping. In between all of this I found time to review some work reports and prepare for my return to FOB Smart in about three weeks. All in all it was another "normal" day at the US Army Corps Engineers compound on KAF.

I have been residing in our "bunk room," which is filled to capacity with 15 others sojourners. We all are always coming and going when staying here. It is never dull in here and sometimes the war stories can get fairly thick with embellishment, seemingly or otherwise, but they are fun to listen to nevertheless.

143, Kaesen.

Good night and good day.
