AF Day 212

Kandahar Airfield at 1445 - Monday

Happily and eagerly I finally departed FOB Smart after a short wait at our helipad this morning, but not before I had a chance to fill up on some hot chow and say my goodbyes to a few friends. We flew north and then back south to get here today, so I had a chance to view FOB Bullard for the first time, and see the new construction from an aerial perspective here on Kandahar Airfield (KAF).

One of my USACE buddies, Pete Delaney, picked me up at the KAF helipad upon arrival and took time to show me some of his USACE construction projects. Talk about "wow!" I am impressed and amazed at the difference in quality of construction and craftsmanship from place to place here. We had a quick lunch at one of the ten dining facilities here at KAF and then separated so I could walk to get a haircut, browse around the Boardwalk, our shopping mall, and rest up a little from getting a start earlier than 0500 today.

I also crossed paths with an Air Force buddy, Major Gregory Anderson, from FOB Apache, also in Qalat, here at KAF and plan to catch up over dinner with him and other local friends tonight. All is well here at the USACE compound and every time I arrive something major or dramatic has changed. This time it includes additional personnel quarters, IT upgrades and capacity increases, and a host of new faces. I love this place!

I leave here for Dubai on Thursday!

143, Kaesen.

Good night and good day.
