FOB Smart at 1915 - Wednesday
Wednesday night is here and the week is moving right along. I found ice in low water areas on the FOB this morning, well actually water with a thin layer frozen on top, which means it was downright cold last night and early this morning. It stayed cold most of the day and reminded me a lot of North Dakota, especially Devils Lake where the winds are relentless - just like here today. If we had kites we would be flying them high.
I enjoyed a mounted combat patrol into New Qalat City this morning, albeit a brief patrol, but thoroughly enjoyable nevertheless. We stopped at two of my ongoing projects, a ministerial offices project and a cistern construction project in a women's affairs compound. The visits themselves were typically routine, but the folks we encounted, if only briefly, between the two stops were as lively as could be. I stopped a mother and her child along the way and gave a bag of Famous Amos cookies and a toothbrush. The little Afghan child smiled big - which was the desired effect!
I am thrilled to be here, thrilled to be leaving for R&R again soon, and thrilled at the prospects of my life ahead.
143, Kaesen.
Good night and good day.
