FOB Smart at 1245 - Thursday
Wow! I have five days and a wakeup before I leave this FOB and fly to Kandahar. I have only nine days and a wakeup until I leave Afghanistan for Dubai, Washington D.C., Seattle, and arrive in Phoenix to start my long overdue vacation with my son. Talk about, "wow!" Elated is very descriptive of my mental state this very moment. Soon, I know such will include "relieved" and worn out," but for now I am simply elated.
We met with contracting officers, construction consultants, liaisons, and project management personnel several times in the last day-plus regarding one of my nearby projects. The end is in sight for me with regard to turnover and release from authority on my part. These meetings, and we have several more, are to ensure a stable transition for the PRT project management team and a definitive completion date and acceptable end-states for the project contractor. I wish that I could see this specific FOB project through to completion, but my time is done and I need to run!
The weather is absolutely gorgeous outside. A few clouds, lots of sunshine, plenty of comfortable spring breezes, and everything feels good. Inside, my air conditioning is pumping strong, although with nearly 90 pounds lost, I have far less "insulation" and the cool air inside a building does not feel quite the same that it did a year ago. I know this is a very good thing though.
All is well here on FOB Smart. Time is short for some of us; long for most others. Today has been and will likely continue to remain spectacularly wonderful. Kaesen was a little tired, and therefore grump, when we spoke this morning. I also spoke with my Momma this morning; we had not had a phone call in a little while. It is always so nice to catch up!
143, Kaesen.
Good night and good day.
