AF Day 331

FOB Smart at 1900 - Monday

Today was great here at the FOB - for me. I had an afternoon dismounted foot patrol into Old Qalat City; progress on the four projects that I observed was anticipated and expected. The people along the way were nice enough and not at all threatening in any way. The security members who protected me along the way were professional and personally interested in my mission and my safety. I think what propelled this from an average day to a great day was the interaction that I had, always have, with many of our FOB personnel today, especially that with our Afghan partners working as armed security guards. These men are truly amazing, they are wonderfully kind, and they always seem to be so appreciative of my interaction with them. I would hope that all of my previous, current, and future interactions with every Afghan go off as well as with this FOB Smart security team. They really put smiles on my face every single time I see them and speak my broken Pashto with them.

The sun rose and set as it always does. The weather is warm and here to stay until next October or November. I have more meetings scheduled in my remaining eight full days - about the same as whatever could be described as "normal" for me here. This makes time fly by so quickly and I truly appreciate the constant activity afforded me through construction management. The clouds often come in daily now, yet no rain is in sight. I guess it is just as well for me, as I will be treated to all the rain I can handle - and then some, in Seattle, Washington, beginning this coming June.

143, Kaesen.

Good night and good day.
