AF Day 328

FOB Smart at 1830 - Friday

Hello again, it's Friday! For us here in Qalat, Afghanistan, it's Friday night and the day has come and gone without excitement or "excitement" of any kind. Dinner tonight was fine. I spoke with a few contractors today and prepared for a few pending contractor meetings. I now have less than 12 days until I leave FOB Smart; less than 16 until I am gone - gone! That familiar change-is-ahead limbo is slowly becoming noticeable. All is well.

My thoughts are, for some reason, returning more and more to last August and the "excitement" we had here at FOB Smart. I presume it is my way of dealing... It will most assuredly be nice to be back on safer soils again. Until then I am all about keeping my head down and my mind right with the mission focus. Not until I reach Dulles at Washington D.C. will I feel totally comfortable. I understand that this is normal.

We enjoyed warm weather again today; spring weather so similar to central and southern Arizona you would almost think you were there - save for the war zone reality we see all around us. If we could, we would all be wearing T-shirts and flip-flops; alas, we cannot - so we do not.

143, Kaesen.

Good night and good day.
