AF Day 063

FOB Smart at 1330 - Saturday

We completed an early foot patrol this morning to observe progress on my Qalat road paving, radio station, ministerial buildings, and perimeter wall projects. We will be observing progress later on additional ministerial buildings and park projects. Waking at 0430 several days a week is not so tiring and allows foot patrols to happen before the summer heat sets in later each morning. I really enjoy my local missions to observe construction progress.

Saturdays are our weekly meeting days with my counterparts from FOB Apache (USACE Qalat Resident Office). It is always a pleasure to visit, however brief, with my USACE comrades. They bring a wealth of local knowledge and experience to the table each time they are here to participate in these meetings.

FOB Smart is feeling more "normal" now and today. The new team has settled in and I find myself enjoying each of them as with the previous team. Time really flies by here. We have a regular feeling with one another and I am grateful for their presence. As with before, there are many characters, players, partners, and professionals comprising this group of soldiers, airmen, and civilians.

I spoke with K&K before they went to bed. They are well and happy to be in Washington still.

143, K&K.

Good night and good day.
