AF Day 062

FOB Smart at 2115 - Friday

What a terrific day! I enjoyed working with my new team and feel like we progressed enough to be satisfied with our work. We have been plagued recently with IM/IT issues and today we were able to resolve a portion of the hardware issues with a few connections (my good Major from FOB Apache, my good J-6 from KAF, and a few good folks here and there) and a little follow through. The saying, "ask and ye shall receive," comes to mind.

I met with two contractors today and feel like they have come to respect and accept me for my character. Following through with doing what we tell people we will do definitely moves this process along and engages our partners. Seeing them with smiles and apparent heartfelt appreciation warmed my spirit. We even talked a little about our families, which is an honor for me, as many locals prefer to keep such private.

Tonight I fired an M203 grenade launcher for the first time! Our security forces were training with them firing parachute flares. I also fired two hand-fired star-cluster flares. Minimal effort, minimal reports, and maximum visibility are my take away from this new experience. A special thanks to my friend SFC Russell for making it happen for me with his platoon tonight. No photos, but the view of five or more flares all slowly dropping through the air over the Tarnak River was an impressive sight to behold. Maybe I will get to fire an M4, 9MM, and maybe even the M2 and Mark-19 soon...

I have an early mission tomorrow so I am calling it bedtime in T-minus 15.

143, K&K.

Good night and good day.
