AF Day 058

FOB Smart at 1700 - Monday

Today has been a day of normalizing and a day of "getting into the groove" of the new PRT Zabul. All but two of our old team has departed and some have even arrived home. I am receiving messages from some of those who have already made it home and they sound very upbeat and happy to have their Afghanistan tour behind them. I am happy for them and hope the rest of their lives this place will remain with them, even if only as a fading memory of the impactful mission they fulfilled. The new team will soon come and go as well. My time will soon enough come and go. However, while I am here I plan to continue to be the best person I can and to perform at the highest level of efficient output my body and mind will allow. Give it my all per se.

Life at FOB Smart continues to be rewarding. Life also continues to deliver "excitement" here and there and this week has been no different so far. We have nearby activities occurring that a normal person back home would find hard to believe if they were to never walk in the shoes of the men and woman that live here. Think loud noises, terrible moments followed by heartening moments, and a constant drone of generators humming all the while. Life here is grand and life here is gritty.

Someday I would like to share here the specifics of that which "additionally" occurs here, especially those events that affect safety and security postures. Nevertheless, I can only say now that I am truly grateful for the team members who live amongst us here at FOB Smart and I am proud of their daily "wins" and accomplishments.

I miss you, Kimberly and Kaesen, family, and friends.

143, K&K.

Good night and good day.
